For transport ask your surgery to book a car for you or ring 07501 029237.
Our volunteers drive residents from Esher or Claygate to medical appointments. They will collect you from your home, drive you (and a partner if you wish to bring someone with you) to the appointment and wait for you. They will then drive you home. Our volunteers use their own cars. For appointments with local doctors, ask their receptionists to call us to book a car for you. For other medical appointments at dentists, opticians, physiotherapists, podiatrists, or hospitals, ring: 07501 029237 (Monday – Friday, 9.30 – 12.30 or leave a message on our answerphone). Please note that we can find drivers for local community hospitals and sometimes for Kingston, Epsom or St Peter’s. Please contact us at least 48 hours in advance for either service, as it is difficult to find drivers at short notice.
All our volunteers have been checked by the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS), and have provided satisfactory references.
How does it work?
When you book transport through your surgery, the receptionist will contact Esher & Claygate Car Service who will find a driver for you. This driver will then ring you to arrange when to collect you.
If your appointment is cancelled or altered, please inform the surgery by phone. Unfortunately we cannot take wheelchairs. If you have a Blue Badge, please bring it with you.
What does it cost?
For surgery and clinic trips within Esher and Claygate we ask for a donation of £3. For hospital trips, we ask for £5, in addition to any parking charges.
We are always looking for more volunteers to help us run this essential service. Can you spare a few hours a month, at times to suit yourself, to help us?
All you need is a clean driving licence, use of a car and an interest in helping people in your local community. We also ask you to help with taking the bookings for two weeks a year.
