Ashes are an ancient sign of penitence. It is the custom to begin Lent by being marked in ash with the sign of the cross. Ash Wednesday, marks the start of Lent in the Christian calendar and has been observed by Christians for centuries.

Bellringing News

Parsons Cup awarded to the Bellringing team at Christ Church, Esher

We are pleased to announce the Bellringing team at Christ Church have just been awarded the Parsons Cup. It is awarded every year to one of the fifteen towers in the Chertsey District for making the most improvements.  It was originally donated by David & Joyce Parsons (Egham) and first awarded in 1973. It used to be won by the top tower in the Striking Competition but it is now awarded for overall improvement in recruiting, training, striking and above all ringing for Sunday services.

At this time of year we mark the Feast of Candlemas, one of the oldest Christian festivals, remembering the presentation of the infant Jesus at theTemple, with reflective music including a setting of the evening canticles.

This exciting young ensemble are now all well-established professional musicians, having formed the Cadran Trio after graduating from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.  Individually, they have toured major venues in both the UK and continental Europe.
