Jesse Tree - Day 21

Day 21 - Joseph the Carpenter

Bible Ref: Matthew 1:18-25, Ornament: Carpenters Hammer

Joseph was a young man from Nazareth.  He was a carpenter and was very clever at making things from wood.  He worked hard in his workshop with his father.

Now Joseph was in love with a young girl named Mary and they were engaged to be married!  But then he discovered that she was going to have a baby. He planned to break off their engagement quietly.

Then an Angel sent by God came to him in a dream and said “Joseph, Son of David, do not be afraid to marry Mary.  Her baby has been conceived by the Holy Spirit.  She will have a baby boy and you must give him the name Jesus”. (Because the name Jesus means “The Lord Saves”.)

When Joseph woke up he did what the Angel had said.  He married Mary and took care of her as his wife.

Joseph and Mary had to go on a long journey from Nazareth to the town of Joseph’s birth – Bethlehem (as the King ordered everyone to do!)  And so, just as Mary’s baby was about to be born, they found themselves in the city that long, long ago, had been the home of King David!

Bethlehem – Royal David’s City.  God’s plan was ready to unfold.....
