Music in the Tower: Electric Baroque

ELECTRIC BAROQUE: Simon Desorgher & David Stevens - flutes and electronica

For the Esher Music in the Tower series 2015, Simon Desorgher and David Stevens will create some 21st century magic, mixing woodwind with computer wizardry!

Their programme will centre around Baroque canonic music, including Pachelbel's Canon, originally written for 3 instruments over a ground bass.  With the help of modern technology, Simon Desorgher will play all four parts live, with computer software specially written by David Stevens 'recording' the live flute and bringing it back at the right time to create all four parts.

Other canons in various forms by Purcell and Telemann will be given the same 21st century treatment, creating the magic of ensemble pieces played live by just one player. The programme will also contain solo flute music by Debussy, CPE Bach and others.

The highlight of the concert will be a new composition by Simon and David, based on Bach’s famous Passion Chorale, for bass flute with time-stretching on computer, creating a meditative new soundworld.
