Winter Homeless Shelter

Local charity Transform Housing & Support is running a winter shelter for homeless people from Elmbridge, Runnymede and Spelthorne from January to March 2016.

The shelter in Staines will provide accommodation and meals for 10 homeless people who would otherwise be sleeping rough. Each person will have somewhere safe and warm to sleep, a hot meal and a simple breakfast – with support to help them get off the streets for good.

Even in an affluent area such as Surrey, homeless people end up sleeping on the streets or living in a tent or vehicle. During the winter, this can lead to serious health problems and can even be fatal. The shelter will provide an essential lifeline during the coldest and wettest time of year.

Similar projects have benefited from generous support from the local community and local churches in particular. They are seeking volunteers to support this year’s project, as well as donations and supplies to keep the shelter running from January to March 2016.
