EU referendum: Statement by Archbishops of Canterbury and York

Friday 24th June 2016

Archbishop Justin Welby and Archbishop John Sentamu have issued this joint statement today after the UK voted to leave the European Union: 

On Thursday, millions of people from across the United Kingdom voted in the referendum, and a majority expressed a desire that Britain’s future is to be outside the European Union

Parish Quiz Night

Our Parish Quiz will take place on Friday 24 June, 7.30pm for 8pm at Esher Church School.  Tickets £15 each to include a fish and chip supper. Tables of eight people ideally. You can, of course, book individually for combining into complete tables on the night. Please BYO alcohol and drinks and any other snacks. Please bring money for raffle. Entrance forms are available in church or email the Parish Office. Please book as soon as possible - new deadline is Wednesday 22 June. We aim to finish at about 11pm. Looking forward to seeing you all.

We are beginning a six week sermon series on  the first 13 chapters of 1 Corinthians, we hope you might be able to make as many of them as possible. One the reasons for the letters existence was to answer questions that the church community in Corinth posed to St. Paul.

Thy Kingdom Come

May we invite you to join in with us for nine days of prayer (a novena) in preparation for Pentecost, and the outpouring of God's Spirit upon His church afresh. At this especial time of national prayer, our Archbishops are asking us to pray that all Christians find renewed life in Jesus Christ themselves, that all people we have contact with will see something of Jesus Christ and know his transformation, and that the church will find life and joy in Christ which will be a beacon of light and overflow into their communities.

Christ Church at the Esher May Fair

This year Christ Church and the Parish will once more be joining the fun of the Esher May Fair on Saturday 21 May - we wouldn’t miss it for the world!  We will have a stall on the green and the church will throw open it’s doors to welcome one and all.

Music & Meditation Service for Palm Sunday

This service will take place on Sunday 20 March, at 6pm in Christ Church. It will include a performance of John Stainer’s Crucifixion, the much loved Victorian oratorio. Conducted by Stuart Whatton with soloists Charles MacDougall and Gavin Cranmer-Moralee and organist Keith Howell-Jones. Please put the date in your diary.

Our Mothering Sunday services will take place on Sunday 6 March. At St George's Church, West End, there will be a Communion Service at 9am and at Christ Church, Esher, there will be an All Age Service at 10.30am. All are welcome.

This new initiative from the Church of England sends you seven related bite-sized thoughts straight to your mobile or email. Why not journey through Lent with some soul[food], by picking each week one of the topics below (saving Easter to the end) - choose which ever order takes your fancy.  If you do try some soul[food] this Lent please email me a few sentences feedback, rector.esher@gmail.com,  so I can pass it on to the Diocese who gave me the free pack.  Thank you.

Lent Course: The Commandments

This year the Lent Course is a Pilgrim course focusing on The Commandments.  There will be a daytime course led by Stefan and Nate and an evening ‘Breathe’ course led by Becky Warner.  Both courses will run for six consecutive weeks, at Christ Church, starting on Wednesday 10 February at 10.30am and at 8pm.  Everyone is welcome. The course material, if affordable, is about £5.  If you are interested, sign up at the back of the church. Come to as many as you can - we look forward to exploring The Commandments with you.
