Historic St George's Church
Needs your support for major restoration work
St George’s Church was built in 1879 on land granted by Queen Victoria, and overlooks the green and ponds in West End. It is one of the few remaining ‘iron churches’ or ‘tin tabernacles’, and is very much a living church, used for regular worship, weddings, baptisms, funerals and the village Christmas carol concert! And we have worked hard over the decades to preserve what was originally a temporary structure intended to last just 15 years!
We now seek your support to ensure the future of this vibrant and historic building, and are undertaking major refurbishment and renovation, both internal and external. The roof has recently been repaired, the outside is being stripped back and repainted, and electrics have been updated. Further essential work includes a new floor, installation of reliable lighting, complete internal repainting and multiple repairs to woodwork
We will need £40k to enable us to complete this very important project, on what many regard as the focal point of the village. Please donate what you can and visit us at any time to see the progress. You are always welcome!
